THE City of Surrey on Saturday hosted its 13th annual Party for the Planet Earth Day celebration, presented by TD Bank Group, at Surrey Civic Plaza. Despite the inclement weather, thousands poured in. The event served as a platform for attendees to delve into environmental initiatives and explore sustainable living.
“I am immensely proud to witness the remarkable success of Surrey’s Earth Day celebration, which has once again solidified our city’s commitment to environmental sustainability,” said Surrey Mayor Brenda Locke. “This event serves as a testament to the collective efforts of our community in preserving and protecting our planet for future generations. I extend my heartfelt thanks to all the sponsors, performers, vendors, and volunteers whose contributions made this event a resounding success.”
This year’s festivities showcased a range of environmental education presented by City-led initiatives such as the Climate Action Team, Surrey Transportation and Water Conservation. Attendees had the opportunity to engage in several activities, such as learning to garden at the Environmental Extravaganza and learning about ocean conservation within the Ocean Wise Sea Dome. Additionally, local vendors offered an array of eco-friendly products, including skincare items, food items, jewelry, and beeswax wraps.
In addition to the workshops and vendor stalls, attendees enjoyed various attractions, including a plant sale which sold over 1,000 plants, rock climbing, Bird Canada e-bike demonstrations, food trucks, live music, and dance performances. Children enjoyed entertaining shows and dance lessons throughout the day, and 500 attendees received tomato plants in the tomato plant giveaway.
“Party for the Planet was another huge success and TD was thrilled to take part in the celebrations,” said Chris Sirovyak, Surrey District Vice President, TD Bank Group. “We’re so proud to have served as the presenting sponsor for this marquee event, which inspired thousands of people of all ages to do their part to help create a more vibrant planet.”
Attendees are invited to provide feedback on Party for the Planet 2024 for a chance to win $200 to Guildford Town Centre. To take the survey, visit www.partyfortheplanet.ca
