Suspect who drove away in Surrey RCMP vehicle arrested, police looking for his partner

ON Friday, June 21 at approximately 11:34 p.m., a Surrey RCMP frontline officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop of an erratic driver near the 13600-block of 100th Avenue in Surrey. The driver evaded police and entered into an underground parkade of a nearby building where the vehicle was contained.

The two occupants of the vehicle were initially cooperative with the police officer, however both later fled on foot with the officer giving chase to the driver. The passenger was able to get into the police vehicle and drive away, crashing through a secure gate.

The police vehicle was found abandoned several hundred yards away in the 980-block of Whalley Boulevard. A person believed to be involved in this matter was arrested a short distance from scene and is being held in custody on an outstanding arrest warrant. Police are searching for the second suspect.
