Suspicious death of notary public Stephen Chong in Richmond (update)

THE Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) is requesting public assistance to further its investigation into the suspicious death of 58-year-old Stephen Chong of Richmond.

On Friday, October 18, at around 5:30 p.m., Chong was found dead inside his business in the 8200-block of Granville Avenue in Richmond.  After an assessment of the scene by the Richmond RCMP, IHIT was called in as the circumstances surrounding Chong’s death appeared suspicious.

IHIT is investigating with the assistance of the Richmond RCMP serious crime unit.  Priority tasks will include conducting a complete neighbourhood canvass for witnesses and video surveillance footage.  IHIT’s crime scene manager will also be working in tandem with forensic specialists from the Integrated Forensic Identification Services (IFIS) to collect and process forensic evidence.

“Mr. Stephen Chong was a notary public in the Richmond community with no record of criminality,” said IHIT Sgt. Frank Jang.  “Our investigators are working hard to determine motive.”
