TransLink’s summer campaign offering new discounts, bike valet service, events

TRANSLINK on Thursday launched its summer campaign to encourage car-free transportation to local destinations throughout the Metro Vancouver region. Through this year’s Ride & Shine Campaign, TransLink is offering a new bike valet service, discounts to local summer destinations, and a series of Car Free festivals.
“The summer is the perfect time to leave the car at home and explore the region by walking, cycling, rolling, or taking transit,” said TransLink CEO Kevin Quinn. “There is so much to do in Metro Vancouver, and we hope you consider using sustainable transportation to get there.”
TransLink is partnering with local businesses, restaurants, museums, and other regional destinations to provide discount incentives for customers who take transit to get there. Participating organizations and details are on the Ride & Shine Webpage, along with an interactive map with wayfinding information about how to travel to tourism hotspots sustainably.
TransLink is sponsoring a new free bike valet service for cyclists outside of Vancouver City-Centre SkyTrain Station. This pop-up bike parking service will allow cyclists to park their bikes in a secure and staffed location free of charge. This service will be available from June 19 until September 1. The bike valet service will operate between 7:30 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. on weekdays, and between 10 a.m. and 8 p.m. on weekends.

This initiative is being led by BEST (Better Environmentally Sound Transportation), in partnership with TransLink, the City of Vancouver, the Downtown Vancouver Business Improvement Association, and Cadillac Fairview.

TransLink is also sponsoring six Car Free Day Festivals this summer to help bring local communities together to experience their vibrant neighbourhoods in an environmentally sustainable way.

The festivals will feature sustainable and active transportation, an assortment of food and drink options, and entertainment including music, dance performances, and family activities. Attendees will also be encouraged to take a car free pledge.
