DELTA Police said on Monday that over the past week, the community of Tsawwassen has experienced an increase in theft from parked cars. Many of these thefts have included garage door openers being taken from the cars and then used to enter the garages.
On Monday at approximately 4:20 a.m., an alert citizen reported suspicious activity at a neighbour’s residence where an unknown man and woman were removing property from a residential garage and putting the property into a minivan. Officers attended, but the van fled from officers.
Just before 6 a.m., officers relocated the van and conducted a vehicle stop. The driver, a 36-year-old woman from White Rock, was arrested for break-and-enter, theft, possession of stolen property, possession of break-in instruments, breach of conditional sentence order, breach of release conditions, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, and flight from police. Charge recommendations are being forwarded to Crown counsel and the woman remains in custody. The male was not in the van and has not yet been located.
Police noted that it was apparent from the property located in the van that more than one residence and/or vehicle had been targeted in this overnight crime spree. They are asking Tsawwassen residents to check their cars and garages for any missing property that may have been stolen during the overnight period. There is a likelihood police have recovered your property.
Police are also investigating a white Ford Escape stolen from the same area during the same timeframe. They said that this stolen vehicle is likely the way the male was able to leave the area undetected by officers.
If you have been the victim of theft in relation to this spree, you are asked to contact Delta Police at (604) 940-7321 or by email at tips@deltapolice.ca. Officers will work to properly identify the recovered property and return it to the rightful owners, police said.
