Two-vehicle crash in Richmond leaves one dead and another in critical condition

AT about 9:40 p.m. last Saturday (July 4), Richmond RCMP responded to a two-vehicle crash on Grant McConachie Way near Aviation Avenue in which a red 1983 Porsche 911 cabriolet travelling eastbound along Grant McConachie Way was struck from behind by a black 2008 Mercedes Benz CLS55 sedan. The impact caused the Porsche to veer off-road and go airborne before striking a tree. Both vehicles sustained heavy damage.

The driver of the Porsche, a 50-year old male from Delta, was transported to local area hospital and is in critical condition. The passenger of the Porsche, A 42-year old female, was pronounced deceased at hospital. She was visiting Canada from Cost Rica.

The driver of the Mercedes Benz, 24-year old male from Vancouver, was transported to local area hospital suffering from serious, but non-life threatening injuries. He was expected to recover.

Alcohol is believed to be a factor in the crash.

“The most difficult task we have is letting the family know that a loved one has passed away. It is extremely disheartening to discover alleged alcohol involvement playing a role,” said Cpl. Dennis Hwang.
