UBC Dental School Celebrates Anniversary of Conference Rooms Donated by Orthodontist Dr. Aly Kanani

Vancouver Orthodontist Dr. Aly Kanani, along with his wife Aliya, and son Aaryan, were again honored for the two year anniversary of the Kanani Conference Rooms at the prestigious University of British Columbia Dental School. A significant six-figure dollar amount donation by Dr. Kanani to the dental facility allowed UBC to construct and open two conference rooms in the J.B. Macdonald building, where the research and clinical departments are housed. The two rooms are named the Drs. Aly and Aliya Kanani Conference Rooms after Dr. Kanani and his wife. The state of the art facilities boast beautiful glass walls on one side of the room, and large flat screen televisions on the opposite wall. The room will provide an adequate area for researchers, dentists and student dentists to come together in their efforts to further the advancements of the dental 2profession for years to come.

Dean of the UBC Faculty of Dentistry, Dr. Charles Shuler, presented Dr. Kanani two years ago with a plaque honoring him for his generous donations to the school. “It’s a tremendous honor to be able to give back to the city, the community, and the profession that we each hold very closely,” said Dr. Kanani. The ribbon-cutting event and dedication ceremony had hosted nearly one hundred faculty, family and patients of Dr. Kanani.

Dr. Kanani hopes that his gift to the dental school at the University of British Columbia will inspire others to give to worthy causes that they believe in. Not just educational foundations, but community, school, sports, social development and acts of charity in general. He holds fast to the idea of investing in not just his patients, but in the community as a whole.

The UBC School of Dentistry recently graduated another class of students achieving the degree in Doctor of Dental Medicine. Dr. Kanani formerly served as an Assistant Clinical Professor at the dental school in the orthodontics department. UBC is the only dental school in British Columbia, and thereby an important resource for the dentists of the province. The dedication which took place two years ago will benefit UBC, dental faculty and students for several years to come.

The two conference rooms are now booked Monday through Friday, around six hours a day for lectures, tutorial sessions and treatment planning sessions with students and faculty at maximum room capacity. When the rooms are not booked, they are used by students for independent study seven days a week with 24-hour access.

Dr. Kanani practices orthodontics and has received numerous awards for his talent and community service. Most recently, Align Technology, the inventors of the invisible braces system known popularly as “Invisalign” and “Invisalign Teen” recognized Dr. Kanani as among the top Invisalign providers in North America. “The local community is extremely fortunate to have an orthodontist with a national reputation as an Invisalign expert so close to home,” says Scott Lindsay, Align Technology Territory Manager for B.C. “There are only two such highly qualified Invisalign doctors in British Columbia and Dr. Kanani is one of them.”

Dr. Kanani owns both Guildford Orthodontic Centre and Langley Orthodontics. He is also a proud member orthodontist of the BC Orthodontics Group, a group of dedicated independent orthodontic specialists in the lower mainland who share a common passion for excellence in orthodontic care, patient relationships, community endeavors, and service to those less fortunate.
