US man turns himself in after posting on Facebook photo of murdered wife

A South Miami man has turned himself into police after allegedly murdering his wife and posting a photo of her body on Facebook.

Reports coming out of Florida paint a grisly picture of a marriage in distress ending in tragedy and a husband who felt compelled to say goodbye to his Facebook friends before going to jail.

Derek Medina, 31, is alleged to have shot Jennifer Alfonso, 26, in their South Miami home before posting an image of her body and confessing online.

CBS Miami reports that an image of Medina’s dead wife was posted to his Facebook page early Thursday.

According to the network an alleged confession was posted about the same time as the photo, reading:-

I’m going to prison or death sentence for killing my wife love you guys miss you guys take care Facebook people you will see me in the news my wife was punching me and I am not going to stand anymore with the abuse so I did what I did I hope you understand me.

Alfonso’s body was later discovered by police in the family’s townhouse, along with a 10-year-old girl believed to be the couple’s daughter.

The Associated Press cites an arrest affidavit that alleged Medina shot his wife because she was going to leave him.

According to the affidavit, Medina told police the couple was arguing in an upstairs bedroom when he pulled a gun and aimed it at her. She left the room, but returned a short time later to say she was leaving. The couple began to fight and Alfonso pulled a knife, which he seized and put away. She then punched him and he shot her several times.
