Brown scores, but RSL come back at BC Place
VANCOUVER, BC – Vancouver Whitecaps FC fell to a 2-1 loss against Western Conference foes Real Salt Lake in their season opener this Saturday night at BC Place.
In the eighth minute, a first touch from Brian White found attacking midfielder Ryan Gauld, as his chance in the final third was parried away by goalkeeper Zac MacMath.
Fast forward to the 24th minute, the ‘Caps would open the scoring after Julian Gressel whipped in a corner, which was then headed in by Javain Brown.
After the halftime interval, goalkeeper Yohei Takaoka came up several huge stops, including a strong reactionary save following a Jefferson Savarino shot in the 64th minute.
Later on in the second half, Maikel Chang’s pass found Justen Glad. His right footed opportunity would be the equalizer in the 70th minute.
The away side quickly took the lead within the 73rd minute, as Damir Kreilach’s shot found the back of the net.
The ‘Caps would push but could not find the equalizer.
