AT approximately 5:07 p.m. on October 2, officers responded to a reported break-and-enter in the 700-block of Hamilton Street. According to the caller, an unknown woman was found inside an apartment and when she was confronted, she assaulted a witness and fled the scene.
Witnesses called police immediately and relayed a very detailed suspect description, thanks to which officers located the suspect approximately 40 minutes later in the area of 6th Street and 3rd Avenue and she was arrested without incident.
At the time of arrest, the suspect had three outstanding warrants and was found to be in possession of identification cards belonging to other people. This incident is still under
investigation and the suspect has been held for court and charges will be recommended to Crown Counsel for consideration.
“Our officers are working to determine if this suspect is connected to numerous other recent break-and-enter investigations,” said Sgt. Andrew Leaver. “We rely on the eyes and ears of the community, and the quick calls from witnesses in this case were instrumental in helping us make an arrest.”
New Westminster Police encourage residents to report any suspicious activity that could indicate a break-and-enter in progress. If you witness something that seems out of place, please call 9-1-1 immediately.
