THE Vancouver Police Department has notified the Independent Investigations Office (IIO) following a fatal collision in downtown Vancouver on Friday.

At approximately 3 p.m., VPD officers were on foot in the 1000-block of Canada Place investigating a fraud. They attempted to speak with a male suspect in a vehicle, but he drove away. Less than a block from the scene, the vehicle was involved in a collision. Paramedics and fire personnel arrived, and the driver was transported to hospital and pronounced deceased. No one else was injured.

The IIO has assumed conduct of the investigation.
