B.C. Green Party leader Andrew Weaver issued the following statement on Tuesday in the wake of the historic election of nine Green MLAs in Prince Edward Island (P.E.I.) with 30.7% of the vote, the largest Green caucus in the country:
“I extend my heartfelt congratulations to P.E.I. Green Party Leader Peter Bevan-Baker and his team on their historic election campaign. From the climate crisis to the emerging economy, we need new leadership that champions evidence-based decision-making rooted in a long-term vision. Peter has demonstrated what is possible when we embrace these values.
“The B.C. Greens have led British Columbia’s new economic development through CleanBC and our Confidence and Supply Agreement with the B.C. NDP government. I look forward to watching Peter and his caucus work in this minority parliament, bringing Green policies to the table in P.E.I.
“I would also like to take this opportunity to express my condolences to the family and friends of Green candidate Josh Underhay and his son Oliver, who passed away on Friday. This is a devastating loss and my heart goes out to all those affected by this tragedy.”
