BC United Leader Kevin Falcon on Thursday introduced Wendy Yuan as the party’s candidate for Richmond Centre in the upcoming Fall 2024 provincial election.
A Richmond resident for over three decades, Yuan is a successful business owner, mother, and an engaged community leader.
“I’ve witnessed Richmond’s growth, its achievements, and its challenges for over three decades. Under this NDP government, our community has faced escalating crime, open drug use, and a relentless surge in the cost of living,” said Yuan. “Richmond deserves better – safety, security, and affordability. I’m here to take meaningful action and address the issues that matter most to the people of Richmond Centre.”
Before making Richmond her home, Yuan earned her TESL diploma from Concordia University in Montreal and a Master of Arts Degree from Bradley University in the U.S. while working as a teaching assistant.
In 1988, her and her husband, Kan, founded a computer wholesale company and in 1994, their family relocated to Richmond. Her noteworthy achievements include nominations for Top 40 under 40 and recognition as one of the Top 25 Canadian Immigrants in 2009.
Yuan actively participates in the Richmond community, holding leadership roles with organizations such as the Richmond Community Foundation, the Canadian Red Cross Chinese Advisory Committee, and the Richmond Economic Advisory Committee. Beyond her professional accomplishments, Yuan enjoys reading, outdoor sports, travel, cooking, music, and cherished family time with her husband and son, Sunny.
“Wendy Yuan’s deep roots in the Richmond community and her extensive volunteer involvement make her the ideal choice to represent Richmond Centre,” said Falcon. “Her unwavering dedication to the well-being of her community aligns perfectly with BC United’s vision for a prosperous and inclusive British Columbia.”
“I am prepared to work tirelessly to earn the support of Richmond Centre voters, so I can join Kevin Falcon and our BC United team in Victoria,” said Yuan. “I know I can be the strong voice that the people of Richmond Centre need in the legislature to bring safety, security, and affordability back into our community.”
Falcon added: “Wendy Yuan’s candidacy signals our commitment to building a diverse and capable BC United team. We are confident that she will be a determined and passionate representative for Richmond Centre, championing a community where families can truly thrive.”
