21st Annual MARTY Award nominations are now open

NOMINATIONS for the Mississauga Arts Council’s 2015 MARTY Awards are now open!
This will be the 21st year of the annual awards which celebrate the established and emerging talent of Mississauga. This year’s deadline for applications is Friday February 27 at 4 p.m.
This year’s MARTY Awards will also feature MAC’s inaugural Art in the Community Conference. The conference will bring delegates for workshops, presentations and networking, with the goal of creating a stronger artistic community in Mississauga and the surrounding communities.

MARTY Arts Award categories include:
•             Literary Arts
•             Media Arts
•             Performing Arts
•             Performing Arts Groups
•             Visual Arts

Each category honours an emerging and established artist with all winners receiving a cash prize of $1000 and recognition at the MARTYS arts award ceremony.  Artists are encouraged to nominate themselves or a peer. Nominees must be residents of Mississauga or lived in the community for at least 10 years.
In addition to recognizing local talent, special awards are presented to individuals who have nurtured the development of the arts in the City of Mississauga.
These include:
•             Volunteer of the Year Award
•             Laurie Pallett Patron of the Arts Award
•             People’s Choice Award
•             Creative Community Award

This year’s MARTYS will be awarded on Thursday, May 7 at the Living Arts Centre at 6:30 p.m.. The Arts in Community Conference will start at noon.
