Fatal pedestrian-involved collision in New Westminster

AT approximately 7 p.m. on Tuesday, New Westminster Police patrol officers were called to the intersection of McBride Boulevard and 8th Avenue for an unresponsive pedestrian that had been struck by a driver of a commercial vehicle. The driver remained at the scene and has cooperated with police.

Investigators from the Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service are on route, police said.

“Our thoughts are with the family of the person who lost their life in this evening,” said Media Relations Officer Sgt. Andrew Leaver. “Investigators are working to piece together what happened, and we urge anyone with dash cam footage or information to come forward.”

If anyone witnessed the incident or dash cam footage, they are asked to contact the New Westminster Police Department at 604-525-5411. It is anticipated the intersection will be remain closed into this evening.
