Abbotsford Police release composite sketch of suspect in Mill Lake Park sexual assault

ABBOTSFORD Police investigators on Friday released a composite sketch of the male suspect in the March 24 sexual assault at Mill Lake Park, hoping to generate additional information.

Police said they believe that the suspect spoke with an accent, suggesting that English might not be his first language.

Uniformed officers continue to patrol the area on foot and in vehicles, maintaining a visible presence in and around Mill Lake Park. Police urge anyone with information about this suspect to come forward and speak to them.

On Monday, March 24, patrol officers responded to a report of a sexual assault in Mill Lake Park that occurred at 6:40 p.m.The female victim reported that she walking alone westbound on the path beside the lake between Ashley Way and Alta Avenue when an unknown man approached her, asking for assistance to take a photo with his cell phone. During this encounter, the victim was assaulted. Although shaken, she was not injured, police said.
The suspect is described as a male, approximately 5’8”, with a medium build, short black hair, and a short black beard. He appeared to be in his 30s and was wearing black pants, a black-and-white short rain jacket with white in the chest area and carrying a black umbrella.
This is believed to be a random incident. Investigators are appealing for any witnesses who were in the park between 6 p.m. and 7 p.m. and may have information about this incident to contact the Abbotsford Police Major Crime Unit at 604-859-5225.
