CRIMINAL Code charges have been sworn against a man following two separate Surrey Police Service (SPS) and RCMP Surrey Provincial Operations Support Unit (RCMP SPOSU) investigations into a series of alleged shootings which occurred in December 2025 and August 2026.

On December 7, 2025, RCMP SPOSU officers responded to a report of a shooting, at a residence in the area of 110 Avenue and 140 Street. On December 27, 2025, SPOSU officers responded to a report of a second targeted shooting at the same residence. On December 28, 2025, SPOSU officers responded to a third targeted shooting at the same residence. Through their investigation, SPOSU officers were able to identify one suspect who is believed to be responsible for the three alleged shooting incidents at the residence in Guildford.

On August 24, 2026, the BC Prosecution Service approved the following 12 Criminal Code charges against Marco Matias, a 37-year-old male, that include:

• Three counts of reckless discharge of a firearm;
• Three counts of possession of a firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized;
• Three counts of unauthorized possession of a firearm in a motor vehicle; and
• Three counts of possession of a firearm contrary to an order.

On August 12, 2026, SPS Frontline officers responded to a report of a shooting outside a residence in the area of 60 Avenue and 177 Street where two people were shot at, with one sustaining minor injuries. Upon arrival, officers located the injured person, and the male suspect had fled the scene.

On September 4, 2026, the BC Prosecution Service approved 10 additional Criminal Code charges against Marco Matias in relation to the August 12 incident, including:

• Two counts of discharge a firearm;
• One count of aggravated assault;
• Two counts of carry, use, or threaten to use a weapon or imitation weapon;
• One count of possess a loaded prohibited or restricted firearm;
• One count of possess a prohibited firearm, restricted firearm or non-restricted firearm, knowing he was not the holder of a licence;
• One count of possess a prohibited firearm, restricted firearm, or non-restricted firearm, without being the holder of a licence;
• One count of possess a firearm, knowing that the serial number on it had been altered, defaced, or removed; and
• One count of possess a firearm while he was prohibited from doing so.

Marco Matias is awaiting a bail hearing and has been remanded until his next scheduled court appearance on September 16.
