Charge approved against North District RCMP Constable Jay Barban

A charge of driving without due care and attention has been approved against North District RCMP Constable Jay Barban in connection with an on-duty motor vehicle incident alleged to have occurred on August 19, 2021, near Bear Lake, the BC Prosecution Service (BCPS) announced on Thursday.

An Information charging Barban was sworn on August 11 under Provincial Court file number 77288. The first appearance on this matter is scheduled for September 21 in Prince George Provincial Court. The charge was approved by an experienced Crown Counsel with no prior or current connection with the officer.
