City of Surrey breaks ground on eight new pickleball courts in Crescent Park

THE City of Surrey has begun construction on eight new dedicated pickleball courts in South Surrey’s Crescent Park. The project is expected to be complete this summer. When complete, Surrey will have over 80 outdoor pickleball courts.

“The popularity of pickleball continues to grow and that’s why Council has approved eight new pickleball courts to be built in Crescent Beach,” said Surrey Mayor Doug McCallum. “The new courts are just one of 28 projects that make up the $428 million Surrey Invests program that will ensure Surrey’s public recreation amenities keep pace with the tremendous growth we are experiencing in our City.”

Pickleball is a sport that combines many elements of tennis, badminton, and ping-pong.  It is played both indoors and outdoors on a badminton-sized court with a slightly modified tennis net and with a paddle and a plastic ball with holes. Pickleball can be played as doubles or singles and can be enjoyed by all ages and skill levels.

Crescent Park is a large 52-hectare destination park located on 132 Street in South Surrey. It is one of the over 800 parks the City of Surrey manages. More than 200 parks have active amenities such as sports fields, sport courts, playgrounds, community gardens or picnic areas and over 600 parks protect natural areas, open space, and biodiversity as part of the larger green infrastructure network.
