COQUITLAM RCMP are seeking witnesses and additional victims following a series of distraction thefts reported in the community in November.
Investigators are looking into six similar incidents that occurred in Coquitlam and Port Coquitlam. In each case, victims were approached by two women and one man in a vehicle who engaged them in conversation before stealing their jewelry.
In some incidents, suspects asked victims for help such as directions to a church or hospital. They then expressed gratitude by offering fake jewelry. The suspects used this interaction as an opportunity to enter the victim’s personal space by hugging them or placing jewelry on them and used sleight of hand to steal the victim’s jewelry.
In other cases, suspects offered to sell or give victims fake gold jewelry at a low price. They encouraged victims to try on the items, again using the interaction to get close and steal jewelry.
Suspect descriptions:
- Two females and one male;
- Believed to be between 40 and 50 years old;
- Darker complexion;
- In some cases, the two females wore matching pink headwear;
- Associated with a white or grey vehicle (possible with out of province plate).
“We are asking anyone who may have witnessed these incidents or interacted with these persons to contact Coquitlam RCMP,” said Acting Sgt. George Han, Coquitlam RCMP Media Relations Officer.
All the incidents and any potential connections are currently under investigation by Coquitlam RCMP’s Investigative Support Team.
Police are urging residents to report any suspicious activity. Anyone with information, or who may have relevant video footage including CCTV, dash cam, or cellphone recordings, are asked to contact Coquitlam RCMP at 604-945-1550 and quote file number 2025-30432.
