THE City of Delta on Monday announced the launch of its 17th Annual Earth Day Photo Contest, inviting residents to capture the magnificence of nature in their community through their camera lens.
This year’s theme, Streams to Shores, encourages participants to explore and celebrate the vital connections between people and aquatic ecosystems.
The City notes that streams and shores are dynamic, interconnected, and biodiverse natural areas. Delta is home to many incredible and unique waterways, from Chillukthan Slough to Cougar Creek, Boundary Bay, and the Fraser River. Streams and shores are vital in providing flood control, water for irrigation, and habitat for endangered species.
“Our waterways are the lifeblood of Delta, supporting both our environment and community,” said Delta Mayor George V. Harvie. “I encourage residents to participate in this contest and share their unique perspectives on the beauty and importance of our streams and shores.”
Participants can enter the contest in the following categories:
* Adult (18+ years)
* Youth (13-17 years)
* Child (5-12 years)
Delta residents aged 5 and older are eligible to participate. Each participant may submit one photograph capturing the essence of Delta’s streams and shores, ensuring no individuals’ faces are captured in the photo.
To enter, participants must sign up at letstalk.delta.ca/earthdaycontest to complete the Photo Waiver Form and upload their unaltered photo taken in Delta. Optional: participants can include a title and brief description highlighting how aquatic ecosystems positively impact their lives.
The City says exciting prizes await the winners, including 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place awards in each category. A Grand Prize winner will be selected out of all eligible entries received and a Fan Favourite winner will be chosen by public vote, which will be open to Delta residents from April 4 to 13.
The entry deadline is Tuesday, April 1.
