AT approximately 4:45 p.m. on January 23, New Westminster Police responded to a fatal collision involving a pedestrian and driver in a parking lot in the 800-block of Boyd Street.
Witnesses called 9-1-1 to report that an elderly female had been struck by a driver. Officers arrived alongside New Westminster Fire and Rescue Services and BC Emergency Health Services. The pedestrian was transported to hospital and investigators learned that person had died.
The driver remained on scene and is cooperating with investigators. The Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service arrived to collect evidence. The New Westminster Major Crime Unit has assumed conduct of the investigation. Officers are currently canvassing for CCTV and interviewing witnesses.
“As is the case with all fatal collisions, the Major Crime Unit has taken conduct of this investigation,” said Sgt. Andrew Leaver. “Police will be in the area for the next several hours.”
