GURU Nanak Food Bank (GNFB), in partnership with Gurdwara Dukh Nivaran Sahib, has collected nearly $50,000 worth of essential supplies to support families and communities impacted by wildfires in Penticton, Summerland and the surrounding Okanagan region.
The wildfire relief collection took place over three days, from August 16 to August 18, with community members generously donating essential items including diapers, baby food, baby and body wipes, toothbrushes and toothpaste, deodorant, over-the-counter medicines, feminine hygiene products, paper towels, toilet paper, dish soap and body wash.
On Wednesday, August 19, Guru Nanak Food Bank and Gurdwara Dukh Nivaran Sahib at 15255 68 Avenue in Surrey will send a trailer loaded with the collected supplies to Okanagan College in Penticton for distribution in support of those affected by the wildfires.
“The nearly $50,000 worth of supplies collected in just three days reflects the generosity and strong community spirit shown by donors, volunteers, media partners and supporters who came together to respond to the urgent needs of families affected by the wildfires.
“Guru Nanak Food Bank and Gurdwara Dukh Nivaran Sahib extend their heartfelt thanks to everyone who donated, volunteered, promoted the initiative or otherwise contributed to making this wildfire relief effort possible,” said Narinder Singh Walia, President and Director of Guru Nanak Food Bank.
