HARKAMAI Singh Hira, 31, of Surrey, has now been charged with one count of robbery and one count of using an imitation firearm while attempting to commit the indictable offence of robbery at a Ladner business last week.
Hira was arrested and police recovered some cash and stolen property after an armed robbery at a business in the 5200-block of Ladner Trunk Road on April 2. The robbery was called into police at approximately 12 noon.
Staff at the business alleged that a gun had been used in the robbery, and cash and a quantity of goods were stolen. The investigation also revealed a vehicle of interest associated to the robbery.
Delta police located the vehicle soon afterwards. Police activated emergency equipment and attempted to stop the vehicle at which point the vehicle crossed into oncoming traffic in the 12600-block of 68th Avenue. The suspect vehicle failed to stop at a red light and struck a northbound vehicle. The occupants of the northbound vehicle received only minor injuries.
The driver of the suspect vehicle fled on foot, while the passenger in the suspect vehicle was arrested. Police recovered a number of items stolen from the business as well as a replica handgun.
The Delta police forensics unit attended both the scene of the armed robbery and the crash, while Surrey RCMP iinvestigated the motor vehicle crash. The Delta Police major crimes unit was also engaged.
“We know news of this robbery was concerning to Ladner residents and businesses, so we wanted to make sure our community was provided with an update,” said Cris Leykauf, spokesperson for the Delta Police.
Hira was previously known to police. He is currently in custody, and his next court appearance is scheduled for April 17.
The investigation remains ongoing in respect to locating the other suspect involved in this incident.
