IHIT investigates Sunday night homicide in Surrey’s Port Kells area (updates)

THE Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) was called in to Surrey following a homicide on Sunday night in the Port Kells neighbourhood. 

On June 16 at approximately 10 p.m., Surrey RCMP responded to a report of a woman with life-threatening injuries inside a residence near the 9800-block of 182A Street in Surrey.

With assistance from the Lower Mainland Integrated Police Dog Service (PDS), members of Surrey RCMP quickly located and arrested a man near the area.

The woman was transported to hospital where she succumbed to her injuries.

The victim has been identified as Tori Dunn by her family members, according to media reports.

Her Facebook page says she was the owner and founder at Dunn Right Landscaping Services. She went to Sullivan Heights Secondary in Surrey and studied Psychiatric Nursing at Douglas College.

Global News reported that it had learned the suspect was recently released from custody after an earlier arrest. He has a lengthy and violent criminal history.

Dunn’s dad Aron Dunn posted the following on his Facebook page:

“It is with a broken heart we write this post.
“On June 16th, 2024 Tori Dunn was victim to a home invasion that resulted in her death. We, her family cannot begin to understand how someone as kind as Tori could be victim to such senseless violence. Tori was loved by all that she met. She devoted her time and love to her friends and family, someone who lit up the room with her smile and laugh. She is loved more than words.
“The Dunn family and Trafford Wace will be hosting a vigil in her honor Saturday June 22nd evening at Surrey Bend Regional Park at 7pm. We encourage all those whose lives were touched by Tori to come share a memory of her in a balloon releasing.
“As the investigation is on going we will continue to keep those who loved Tori as informed as possible with dates of a proper memorial service.
“Surrey Bend Regional Park: 17775-104 Ave, Surrey, BC.”
IHIT was called in and is working in partnership with Surrey RCMP.

Police are currently in the evidence gathering phase.
