Horse euthanized after collision with car in Ridge Meadows

RIDGE Meadows RCMP on Monday said a horse was euthanized following a collision with a car.

On Friday, June 22, at around 3:40 p.m., Ridge Meadows RCMP responded to a call of a horse in a ditch at the 22000-block of 132nd Avenue. The riderless horse had escaped its holding area and jumped out from a driveway into oncoming traffic. An eastbound car struck the animal and the driver immediately pulled over and called police. During the collision the horse fell to the ground due to damage to its legs and made its way down an embankment into the ditch.

A passerby attempted to comfort the wounded horse but due to the unpredictably of an animal in pain she inadvertently ended up being pinned underneath the horse. A nearby veterinarian attended the scene and the animal had to be euthanized.

The injured passerby was transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Roads were closed for approximately 20 minutes during this incident.
