THE Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) announced on Wednesday that the human remains found in Richmond on July 23 are those of homicide victim Navdeep Kaur.
On February 23, 28-year-old Navdeep Kaur of Surrey was reported missing by her family to Surrey RCMP. She was last seen on February 22 at 10:30 p.m. in the 7800-block of 123 Street in Surrey. She was described as South Asian, 5’5, 125lbs, with long black hair and brown eyes.
After an extensive investigation by the Surrey RCMP’s Missing Persons Unit, evidence was collected that led investigators to believe that Kaur’s disappearance may have been the result of criminality.
As a result, IHIT took conduct of the investigation and worked in close partnership with Surrey RCMP, the Integrated Forensic Identification Service (IFIS) and the BC Coroners Service.
On July 23, Richmond RCMP received a report of possible human remains located in the water where Williams Road meets the Fraser River. Upon police attendance, human remains were located. Richmond RCMP worked closely with BC Coroners Service to identify the remains and determine the circumstances that led to their death.
IHIT said that in order to further the investigation, investigators are now identifying the human remains as those of Navdeep Kaur. IHIT has continued to pursue a number of investigative avenues to determine the circumstances surrounding her death.
“This is a tragic event and investigators continue to work on this very active investigation. We are releasing an update with the hope that someone who knows something about Ms. Kaur’s disappearance and homicide may come forward,” said IHIT Cpl. Sukhi Dhesi. “We’re asking anyone who has any information, to please call IHIT immediately.”
IHIT is asking anyone with information who has yet to speak with police, to contact the IHIT Information Line at 1-877-551-IHIT (4448) or by email at ihitinfo@rcmp-grc.gc.ca.
