Indian Doctor Jailed In UK For 12 Years For Raping & Filming Dozens Of Women With His Wristwatch Camera

LONDON: A 45-year-old Indian doctor in Britain, who sexually assaulted and secretly filmed the intimate examination of hundreds of his women patients over three years using his hidden wristwatch camera, has been jailed for 12 years.

Davinderjit Bains, the general practitioner at Tinkers Lane Surgery in Royal Wootton Bassett near Swindon, was sentenced on Thursday after he admitted to 39 offences, including 13 of assault by penetration, 13 of voyeurism and 11 of sexual assault.

Bains is a graduate of Kasturba Medical College in Mangalore, India.

His victims were 27 women – between ages of 14 and 51 – and he committed these offences from 2010 to 2012.

Bains used his cheap wristwatch camera (costing 60 pounds) to secretly record hours of footage of his female patients’ intimate examination so that he could watch them later for sexual gratification. The spy camera, hidden in the number six on his wristwatch, could be easily switched off and on by single button.

When police raided him at his clinic in June last year, they found 361 video clips – from 10 to 45 minutes long – showing recordings of the intimate examinations of more than 200 of his patients. In the video clips, Bains could be seen deliberately fondling the breasts and groin areas of women – from ages of 14 to 51 – during the examinations.

Bains was exposed when a 19-year-old student last year told police that he gave her booze laced with drugs, then filmed her showering and finally sexually assaulted her.

Handing down the sentence, Judge Field of Swindon Crown Court told Bains, “When you committed these offences, you breached this duty of trust in the most grievous way. You are a disgrace to the medical profession.’’

The judge added, “You of all people will be aware that the relationship between a doctor and his patient is of fundamental importance in the practice of medicine. In this relationship the doctor is placed in a very high position of trust and the patient is entitled to expect the doctor to discharge that duty with the highest standard. This is particularly so when a female patient consults a male doctor on intimate matters.”

Bains, who was born in Malaysia, went to India to graduate from Kasturba Medical College which is affiliated to Mangalore University. He is reportedly still registered with the Medical Council of India.

He has been barred by the UK’s General Medical Council from the medical profession.

Det Insp Mark Garrett of Wiltshire Police, who led the investigations, has said,“There were a number who simply couldn’t believe it. They couldn’t believe that their GP had betrayed their trust in such a way. Others were outraged and concerned that the footage could have been shared but I can categorically say we found no evidence to show that it had been.

“He (Bains) is a sexual predator who abused the trust of his patients and his position of authority. In almost 30 years of police service I have never come across a case like that of Dr Davinderjit Bains.’’ (News East West)
