Surrey and Abbotsford: As families across the Fraser Valley continue to navigate rising costs and challenging economic times, the KidsPlay Foundation has once again stepped forward to ensure that every child has access to meaningful summer experiences, regardless of their family’s financial circumstances.
This summer, KidsPlay’s free summer camps brought together more than 400 youth across Surrey and Abbotsford, providing children and families with opportunities to participate in sports, educational activities, outdoor experiences, mentorship and positive community engagement — all at no cost.
For many families, summer programs can come with significant expenses. Registration fees, transportation, meals and equipment can quickly become barriers for children whose parents are already working hard to make ends meet. KidsPlay’s summer camps are designed to remove those barriers.
“During difficult economic times, families should not have to choose between putting food on the table and giving their children opportunities to learn, grow and build positive relationships,” said Kal Dosanjh, founder of the KidsPlay Foundation. “Every child deserves an equal opportunity, and that is why we are committed to standing with families in our community.”
The camps extend across the Fraser Valley, creating opportunities for youth from diverse backgrounds to come together, develop new skills and build lasting friendships. Beyond recreation, KidsPlay emphasizes the importance of mentorship, education and positive role models in helping young people make healthy choices and reach their potential.
For parents, the camps also provide peace of mind — knowing their children are spending their summer in a safe, structured and supportive environment.
KidsPlay believes that investing in young people is an investment in the future of the entire community. By providing programs free of charge, the organization hopes to ensure that financial circumstances never determine which children get to participate.
“We often talk about giving young people an equal opportunity, but equality means little if a child cannot afford to participate,” Dosanjh said. “Our responsibility as a community is to make sure every family, every child, is lifted and given a chance to succeed.”
With more than 400 youth participating this summer, KidsPlay’s camps are another example of the organization’s ongoing commitment to supporting families and creating positive pathways for young people throughout the Fraser Valley.
