LANGLEY RCMP said on Tuesday that the shots fired incident that occurred in the early morning hours of June 12 in the 21500-block of 45A Avenue in Langley has now been confirmed to be linked to ongoing extortion-related activity in the region

“Through continued investigative efforts, we have determined that this was a targeted, extortion-related shooting,” said Sgt. Zynal Sharoom of Langley RCMP. “Incidents like this are concerning, and we want to reassure the public that our investigators are actively working to identify those responsible and mitigate further risk to the community.”

Investigators remain engaged in canvassing for witnesses, reviewing surveillance footage, and analyzing evidence. While this incident has now been linked to extortion activity, the investigation remains ongoing.

Sgt. Sharoom had said last week: “Fortunately, no individuals were injured as a result of this incident; however, property damage was reported.”

CTV News had reported last week that besides damage to the property, two vehicles had also been damaged. A victim told them that they believe it is a case of mistaken identity because they have never received any extortion threats. However, the victim added that police had told them that there had been extortion threats reported in the neighbourhood.

CCTV shows two men firing several shots at the house with handguns. While one is standing in the middle of the cul-de-sac close to the targeted house, the other is further back. The two are then seen darting away.

Langley RCMP continue to ask anyone who may have been in the area at the time, or who has dash camera or CCTV footage from the surrounding neighbourhood between 12 a.m. and 1 a.m. on June 12 to come forward.
