A 27-year-old man has been charged with one count of second-degree murder in relation to a fatal shooting in Burnaby in 2021.
On February 11, 2021, at approximately 10:07 p.m., Burnaby RCMP responded to reports of a shooting in the 6100-block of McKee Street in Burnaby. Frontline officers located 44-year-old Neal Pratap suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. The victim was transported to a local hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.
At the time, CTV News reported that a resident told them that they heard a scream and then an injured man knocked at their door, pleading for help.
Integrated Homicide Investigation Team Sgt. Frank Jang told the media in 2021 that the victim had had some interactions with police. Police believed that the victim met with somebody and shots were fired following an altercation. The suspect left the scene on foot and may have got into a vehicle. The Integrated Police Dog Service was called in to comb the area, but the suspect couldn’t be tracked down.
IHIT assumed conduct of the investigation and worked in close partnership with the Burnaby RCMP, BC Coroners Service and the Integrated Forensic Identification Service (IFIS) to further the investigation.

After years of coordinated investigation and evidence gathering, IHIT investigators met the charge approval standard for murder.

On October 24, 2025, IHIT investigators, with assistance from the Lower Mainland District Integrated Emergency Response Team (IERT), arrested 27-year-old Liam Reilly of Vancouver. The BC Prosecution Service laid one count of second-degree murder against Reilly, who remains in custody.
“This shooting took place in what is usually a very quiet neighbourhood in Burnaby,” says Sgt. Freda Fong of IHIT. “Residents in the area were certainly surprised and left feeling uneasy after this incident.”
“The laying of charges reflects the hard work and persistence on the part of the investigators, and the expertise of the Crown Counsel involved in the assessment process. We look forward to the evidence being presented in court.”
IHIT said that as this matter was now before the court, no further information would be released.
