DELTA Police announced on Tuesday that 17-year-old Maaike Blom has been found deceased.
“Police are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding her death,” said Delta Police spokesperson Cris Leykauf. “We’d like to offer our sincere condolences to her family, friends and loved ones on their loss.”
Victim Services has been offered to the family.
Maaike was reported missing to Delta Police on the evening of December 5. She was last seen by family members on December 3. Her disappearance was deemed to be out of character and as such it was considered high risk by police, who dedicated enhanced resources to finding her.
Delta Police located Maaike on the morning of December 7 in a residence on Tsawwassen First Nations lands.
An adult male has been arrested in connection with Maaike’s death; however. police stressed that the investigation is still in the early stages.
“Her death, while considered suspicious, is believed to be an isolated occurrence,” said Leykauf. “We recognize that the public may have many questions, but we ask that investigators be given the opportunity to proceed with their work. The public is not believed to be at risk regarding the circumstances of her death.”
