Man in critical condition after shooting in Newton

SURREY RCMP are investigating a shooting inside a residence in Newton.

At approximately 2:55 a.m. on Saturday, October 3, Surrey RCMP frontline officers responded to a break and enter and shooting in the 5800-block of 129th Street. Officers located a 67-year-old man suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. The man was taken to the hospital where he remains in critical, but stable condition.

The suspect in this incident fled the residence prior to police arrival. He is described as tall and skinny and was wearing a black shirt and black pants.

The Surrey RCMP Serious Crime Unit has taken conduct of this investigation and is working to determine if this was a targeted shooting and if this person was the intended victim. The victim is not known to police.

Police are currently in the evidence-gathering phase.
