Mitchel Iyama and Isaiah Avery John charged in Surrey shooting

TWO men have been charged in the March 11 shooting in Surrey that resulted in injuries to a man.

At approximately 11:15 p.m. on Tuesday, March 11, police received reports of several shots fired in the 15100-block of 33 Avenue.

RCMP SPOSU members located one man suffering from gunshot wounds. The members immediately rendered aid and Surrey Fire Services and BCEHS attended the scene and treated the man. He was subsequently transported to an area hospital in critical but stable condition.

Shortly after the shooting, RCMP SPOSU Surrey Gang Enforcement Team (SGET) members located a suspect vehicle in the area. The suspects attempted to flee and subsequently were involved in a single motor vehicle collision. SGET members arrested two men with the assistance of the Integrated Police Dog Services (IPDS) in the area of the collision.

RCMP SPOSU Serious Crime Unit is the lead unit overseeing the investigation.

Mitchel Iyama, a 24-year-old male, has been charged with:

* Attempted murder using a firearm for the benefit of a criminal organization,
* Flight from peace officer, and
* Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.

Isaiah Avery John, a 21-year-old male, has been charged with:

* Attempted murder using a firearm for the benefit of a criminal organization.

Both Iyama and John remain in custody and are awaiting their next scheduled court dates on March 19 and March 25, respectively.
