A newspaper in Punjab reports that the mother of 24-year-old Gurvinder Nath of Brampton, who died on July 14 following a violent carjacking in Mississauga in Ontario, committed suicide when she was finally told about her son’s death.

Both the mother and son will be cremated in their Karimpur Chahwala village in the Balachaur area of Nawanshahr district in Punjab on Saturday.

The victim, Gurvinder Nath was working as a food delivery driver when a call was placed for a food order on July 9. When he arrived in the area of Britannia Road and Creditview in the City of Mississauga, he was violently assaulted and robbed of his vehicle. On July 14, he succumbed to his injuries after being taken to a trauma centre.

Nath’s mother, Narinder Kaur, was reportedly informed about the tragedy only on Friday just before the arrival of his body in their Punjab village. The stunned mother reportedly committed suicide by consuming some poisonous substance even before seeing her son’s body.
