NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh demands government include India in foreign interference inquiry

FEDERAL NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh on Tuesday said that after learning on Monday that Canada has evidence that agents of the Government of India had a hand in the murder of a Canadian citizen, Hardeep Singh Nijjar, India must be included in the foreign interference inquiry.

Singh said in a statement: “Any involvement of a foreign government in the murder of a Canadian citizen on Canadian soil is an attack on the sovereignty of Canada.

“To those who fled their home countries – fleeing persecution and violence – Canada has always been a place of safety and security. This will not and cannot change.

“I promise you, I will leave no stone unturned, no law, measure or tool unexplored in seeking the severest consequences for those responsible, including holding the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi accountable.

“In an emergency response to this news I am demanding the government response to these allegations include:

“· RCMP protection for people who may be under threat.

“· Significant diplomatic sanctions and a review of all India diplomats in Canada.

“· India being included in the work of the foreign interference inquiry.

“These matters need to be investigated thoroughly in order to ensure the safety of all Canadians.”
