Big changes are coming to your commute as of Monday morning. New sections of two major highway projects are opening to traffic this weekend.
A widened Highway 1 is now complete between McGill Street in Vancouver and the Port Mann Bridge.
“These two lanes are going to be opened in sections as workers can get them ready for traffic. The first piece to open will be a new eastbound lane on Sunday. Additional sections are going to be opened in both directions in the coming days,” explains Greg Johnson with the project.
On Monday and Tuesday they will complete the HOV network from end to end. “We’re opening the new westbound offramp for the HOV lane at Grandview and the new westbound onramp to Highway 1 from Boundary Road will be opening as well.”
As for the other project — Highway 17 or South Fraser Perimeter Road — a major part of its second phase opens between Tsawwassen and Highway 99 on Sunday, with a full grand opening expected to follow soon after.
