INVESTIGATORS with the New Westminster Police Department have made an arrest in connection to a robbery that occurred in Columbia Square.
On July 7, a man attempting to sell an iPhone was pepper sprayed and robbed with counterfeit currency. The suspect fled the scene in a white Tesla.
Investigators worked diligently to identify the suspect, working alongside the New Westminster Police Forensic Identification Unit. At approximately 11:30 p.m. on August 6, officers arrested a suspect believed to be responsible for the incident.
“This arrest was made possible thanks in large part to the work of our Forensic Identification Unit,” said Sgt. Andrew Leaver. “Their efforts played a major role in confirming the suspect’s involvement. We’re also grateful to the Abbotsford Police Department for their support, providing valuable information that assisted in moving this investigation forward.”
Investigators will be reviewing similar incidents to determine if there are any links to this suspect.
The New Westminster Police Department would like to remind residents that buy-and-sell transactions carry some risk. The NWPD’s front lobby, which is monitored by CCTV, is available as a public meeting space for these exchanges.
