AT approximately 4:30 p.m. on March 29, New Westminster Police responded to a 9-1-1 call from someone who said he was witnessing a man cocking a firearm near 6th Avenue and 7th Street. Police flooded the area and located someone matching the suspect description.
The suspect complied with police instructions and was arrested. When the man was searched by police, a pistol was found in his possession.
New Westminster Police said they will be recommending the following charges: one count of breach of probation; five counts of possession contrary to order; and one count of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.
“Thanks to the brave officers who located and quickly arrested this armed suspect,” said Sgt. Andrew Leaver. “This suspect has a lengthy criminal history.”
Police said they would like to thank the person who witnessed the suspect and called 9-1-1. At this time, the suspect remains in police custody.
