THE City of Surrey will begin a gradual reopening of the Newton Seniors Centre as a pilot program with limited activities including writing, knitting, arts and crafts, walking club, women’s social, woodcarving and fitness starting July 20. Activities are anticipated to expand in August. Reservations are required for all activities. Food service in the cafeteria is anticipated to reopen in the fall.
“Seniors have been extremely isolated throughout the pandemic and it’s important that they have opportunities to reconnect with others in the community”, said Surrey Mayor Doug McCallum on Friday. “Having the Newton Seniors Centre gradually reopened is an important step to restoring vitality and social engagement amongst our senior population.”
Registration is now open. To see available programs and to register online, visit surrey.ca/register or call 604-501-5100.
