ONTARIO’S Peel Regional Police investigators from the Homicide Bureau have arrested a young person in relation to the homicide of Brampton food delivery driver Gurvinder Nath, 24.
On Sunday, July 9 at 2:10 a.m., Gurvinder Nath was working in the area of Britannia Road and Creditview Road in Mississauga. Upon arriving at the delivery address, he was confronted by unknown suspects who attempted to take his vehicle when a physical altercation occurred.
The suspects fled the scene in the victim’s vehicle, leaving him at the side of the road with life-threatening injuries. He was transported to a trauma centre, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
On Wednesday, November 22, police arrested a young person in relation to the homicide. He has been charged with second-degree murder and held in custody to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton.
Police noted that a general provision of the Youth Criminal Justice Act (Y.C.J.A.) prohibits the release of the name of a young person and, therefore, the identities of the young persons charged in this investigation are protected.
To add to the tragedy of Gurvinder Nath’s homicide, his mother in Punjab committed suicide when she was told about her son’s death, a newspaper in Punjab reported in July.
Nath’s mother, Narinder Kaur, was reportedly informed about the tragedy just before the arrival of his body in their Punjab village. The stunned mother reportedly committed suicide by consuming some poisonous substance even before seeing her son’s body.
Police said this remains an active investigation and anyone with information or video footage (dashcam or otherwise) is urged to contact investigators in the Homicide and Missing Persons Bureau at 905-453-2121 extension 3205. Anonymous information may also be submitted by calling Peel Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or by visiting peelcrimestoppers.ca.
