NEW Westminster Police responded on Tuesday to a collision involving a pedestrian and a vehicle near Sixth Street and Belmont Street.
A witness called 9-1-1 to report that an elderly male had been struck by a driver. Officers arrived alongside New Westminster Fire and Rescue Services and BC Emergency Health Services. The man’s injuries were determined to be serious and the driver remained on scene and cooperated with investigators. The pedestrian was transported to hospital and the Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service arrived to collect evidence. Officers are currently canvassing for CCTV and interviewing witnesses.
“Sixth Street between Fifth Avenue and Sixth Avenue will remain closed until officers are done with their work,” said Sgt. Andrew Leaver. “Pedestrian access to the businesses in the area has been maintained.”
