ON Wednesday, January 28 at approximately 5 p.m., Ridge Meadows RCMP was called to a residence in the 11700-block of 231 B Street for a report of an assault with a weapon.
Officers located the alleged male suspect alone outside a residence in the area. The suspect was exhibiting signs of mental distress and was not complying with the officers’ demands.
The suspect eventually entered the empty residence and proceeded to barricade himself inside. Due to an abundance of caution, additional support was brought in to assist with removing the suspect from the residence.
With support from the BC RCMP Lower Mainland District Emergency Response Team (ERT) and Police Dog Services, the suspect was apprehended under the Mental Health Act and taken to hospital to be assessed.
No injuries were reported. The investigation is still ongoing.
During the incident, police officers also arrested another individual for breaching the police perimeter after repeated warnings to clear the area.
Ridge Meadows RCMP say they appreciate the public’s assistance in these matters, as it for the public and officers’ safety that these perimeters and precautions are in effect during an unfolding police incident.
