Racist assault on UBC campus by coward on East Asian woman

UNIVERSITY RCMP are investigating the alleged unprovoked assault on an Asian woman. Police are asking anyone with information or anyone who was a witness to come forward.

On Saturday, March 27 at around 8:10 p.m., a woman was taking out the garbage in the alley located behind the 5700-block of University Boulevard when an unknown man approached her. He used a racial term and then punched her in the head and stomach before running in an unknown direction.

The victim then hid and called 911. The victim was taken to hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries and since been released.

The suspect is described as male, medium build, tall, wearing a hoodie, sweat pants and runners. He had on a dark face mask.

This investigation is in the early stages and police are not ruling any motives including that this crime had an element of bias or hate involved.
