RICHMOND RCMP are seeking dash cam footage or possible witnesses to movements of a deceased woman located in the Fraser River.
On October 3, Richmond RCMP received a report of a woman in distress in the Fraser River who was yelling for help. Richmond RCMP immediately requested the assistance of the Canadian Coast Guard while frontline officers attended the area. Officers located the woman, who was unconscious in the river, near the No.2 Road bridge.
The woman was not accessible from shore but with the assistance of a civilian boat operator, an officer was able to get to her and pull her from the river. The officer immediately began CPR while she was transported back to shore.
The woman was taken to a local area hospital but despite all life-saving efforts, she did not survive.
“Tragically, despite all of the valiant efforts of all those involved, the woman did not survive,” says Cpl. Adriana O’Malley, Richmond RCMP Media Relations Officer. “While the death does not appear to be suspicious, we are attempting to retrace the movements of the deceased prior to her being located in the Fraser River.”
Through the investigation, Richmond RCMP has located footage of the woman walking northbound on No.2 Road in the direction of the No.2 Road Bridge. Richmond RCMP are asking anyone who was driving in the following areas between 4:45 p.m. and 5:10 p.m. to review their dash cam footage:
* North or southbound on the No.2 Road Bridge
* River Road and No.2 Road.
Richmond RCMP have conducted video canvassing in the area but are asking any businesses located in the area of No.2 Road / Westminster Highway and Russ Baker Way / No.2 Rd Bridge who have not spoken with police to contact Richmond RCMP.
Richmond RCMP in conjunction with the BC Coroners Service have conduct of this investigation.
Anyone who was in the area and may have dash cam footage or businesses with video surveillance are asked to contact Richmond RCMP at 604-278-1212 and quote file number 2024-31464.
