Surrey RCMP: Man sentenced after pleading guilty to multiple robberies

SURREY RCMP on Wednesday said that Jaden Kahnapace was sentenced to two years, a month and 24 days, less credit for time served, and a lifetime firearms prohibition after pleading guilty to multiple robberies that occurred in October 2021.

On October 2, 2021, Surrey RCMP received a report of a robbery that occurred at a retail store located in the 16000-block of 24 Avenue. A store employee was assaulted and robbed of $1,500 and 38 various cell phones and accessories valued at $32,000. Officers responded and were able to recover evidence which eventually was linked back to the suspect, Kahnapace.

On October 10, 2021, Langley RCMP received a report of a robbery at a retail store located at 20100-block of 88 Avenue with a similar modus operandi where two suspects entered the store and assaulted and threatened the employees. During the robbery, 20 cell phones were stolen. Investigators at scene seized items discarded by the suspects, which were later determined to be linked to Kahnapace.

On October 11, 2021, Abbotsford Police received a report of a robbery at a pharmacy located on Townline Road. Three suspects entered the pharmacy, indicating they had a firearm. A large quantity of medication was reported stolen. Kahnapace was identified through video surveillance in connection with this robbery.

In November 2021, a search warrant was executed at Kahnapace’s residence in Calgary, where he was arrested for the three robberies. Medication stolen during the pharmacy robbery along with cellphones stolen during the retail store robberies were located inside his residence.

On August 8, 2024, Kahnapace plead guilty and was convicted of three counts of robbery, three counts of forcible confinement, and one count of breach of release order.

Surrey RCMP said they would like to thank all their partners in this joint forces operation between Langley RCMP, Abbotsford Police Department, Calgary Police Service and Lower Mainland Integrated Forensic Identification Section (LMD IFIS). The investigation crossed provincial and municipal boundaries, leading to a very successful outcome due to the great work of all the agencies involved, they added.
