RICHMOND RCMP seeking public’s assistance in identifying suspects in an alleged arson last April.

On April 24, at approximately 4:30 a.m., police attended to an alarm at a business located in the 2600-block of Simpson Road where they located a broken window and small fire directly in front of it. Evidence was also located which indicated the fire had been intentionally set.

A subsequent review of video surveillance from the area determined that two unidentified men wearing masks had approached the business on foot prior to allegedly smashing the window and then lighting an object on fire. While lighting it, one of the suspect’s pants caught on fire. Despite efforts of both the suspects, the pants continued to burn.

In the process of attempting to put the fire out, one of the suspect’s mask came off. This suspect is described as a white male, 40 to 50 years, medium build with slicked-back long, dirty blonde hair. He was wearing a dark long-sleeved crew neck shirt and charred beige / tan coloured pants.

“Based on the nature of the fire there’s a high probability that this suspect sustained injuries to his lower body,” says Cpl. Adriana O’Malley, Richmond RCMP Media Relations Officer. “We are asking anyone who recognizes this man or has information about this investigation to contact us.”

The second suspect is described as male, medium complexion or tanned, late 20s to late 30s with an athletic build. He was wearing dark coloured balaclava, black /dark joggers-style pants with blue stripes down the side, dark coloured gloves, a dark hoody and Nike Jordan high-tops.

Both suspects left the area on foot. One headed North on Simpson Road, and the other suspect headed east along the railroad tracks.
