Rightful owner of large amount of cash comes forward after news release

THE large amount of cash that was found in the Tim Hortons at 955 Austin Avenue in Coquitlam on June 20 has been claimed. A 42-year-old man had left a bag of cash at the restaurant. Coquitlam RCMP secured the money and put out a news release.

On October 2, the man attended the Coquitlam RCMP Detachment to claim the cash. Video footage confirmed the man’s identity, and he provided details about the incident that only the rightful owner of the money would know. Investigators found no evidence to suggest that the money was obtained illegally, and returned the cash in full.

“Some people choose not to use the banking system,” said Constable Deanna Law. “The disadvantage is very clear. Placing cash in a bank or secure vault is a far better option than potentially losing it.”

Police suggest that carrying around large amounts of cash is not safe. If you ever lose money or something valuable, call the police in your jurisdiction. In Coquitlam or Port Coquitlam, call the non-emergency line at 604-945-1550.
