Second-degree murder suspect from Calgary arrested in New Westminster

ON February 3, the New Westminster Police Department became aware of a man at a Sapperton area residence who was believed to be wanted on a Canada-wide warrant for second-degree murder.

New Westminster Police Department officers located and arrested the 19-year-old suspect, Michael Elendu, without incident and confirmed his identity as the wanted suspect. Elendu was being sought in connection with the murder of 20-year-old Kyreese Wright, who was found stabbed to death the morning of December 16, 2020, in Panorama Hills, Calgary.

“We are pleased that our members were able to locate this individual and take him into custody without incident,” said Sgt. Sanjay Kumar. “While the original incident didn’t occur in our community, the serious nature of the charges would indicate that this individual needed to be arrested so the judicial process can begin.”

Elendu was transported to NWPD cells and arrangements are being made for him to be returned to Calgary to face his charges there.
