VISION Vancouver has acclaimed Squamish Nation hereditary Chief Ian Campbell as its mayoral candidate for the 2018 election.

“This is an exciting and historic moment for our party and our city,” said Michael Haack, Vision Co-Chair. “Ian Campbell will be our mayoral candidate, putting forward the opportunity for Vancouver to make history and elect its first Indigenous mayor.”

“Ian’s commitment to community and public service is undeniable, working his whole life to bring people together – from all backgrounds and from across the political spectrum – to mobilize on progressive policies that matter to real people.”

Ian is also of Musqueam descent, whose unceded traditional territory encompasses Vancouver and the surrounding region. For nearly 20 years, Ian has represented Squamish Nation as its lead negotiator, successfully securing complex land settlements, housing, and community economic development opportunities with senior governments. Ian has traveled to 33 countries where he has represented Vancouver and Canada’s Indigenous people as an ambassador and diplomat, working with heads of state from around the world.

Vision members will vote for Council, School Board and Park Board candidates on July 8.
